COVID-19 Update from Our Executive Presbyter Aisha Brooks-Lytle (03/19/2020) - link
The Hunger Walk has been canceled as well as the Walk/Run Eucharist BEFORE the Hunger Walk. A few items of note...
You can still Donate to Hunger Walk online and track our presbytery's progress: Hunger Walk 2020
60% of the funds that we raise as a presbytery go toward our P.A.T.H. Grant program, and all churches within our presbytery are eligible to apply for this grant to fund their hunger relief efforts.
40% of funds that we raise as a presbytery go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and ACFB is able to leverage every $1 into $9 worth of groceries for hunger relief (enough for 4 meals!).
Thank you for being a part of this annual presbytery-wide effort to address hunger.
Background and Signup Information
Since 1984, the Hunger Walk/Run has been an annual 5K/“fun run” of the The Atlanta Community Food Bank and its partners. Proceeds benefit the ACFB and other local nonprofits, programs, and ministries focused on hunger relief. These benefiting partner organizations help recruit participants and receive a percentage of the funds raised to support their direct hunger relief programs.
As a benefitting partner, the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta keeps 60% of the funds we raise, which supports our P.A.T.H. Grant (Presbyterians Answer to Hunger) program. All PGA churches are eligible to apply for a P.A.T.H. Grant to support hunger initiatives within their congregation. The remaining 40% that we raise goes to the Atlanta Community Food Bank where - among many other outstanding results - they leverage every $1 into $9 worth of groceries for hunger relief (enough for 4 meals!).
In recent years, the youth of our presbytery have raised approx. $140,000 for hunger relief, ($35,000 in 2017, up 94% from 2016). Our youth have paved the way for us to become a strong benefitting partner. Let's join them to have a great 2020!
Hunger Walk works by having Teams within the presbytery. So, your Team may be called the "My Church is Awesome" Team (or whatever you want to call yourselves).
You need a Team Captain, and then other people can start registering under your Team.
Click on the registration link, and then choose whether you want to Start a Team, Join a Team, etc. It will walk you through registration.
