In Their Shoes: 10 Mile Challenge

In Their Shoes: 10 Mile Challenge

Central Outreach and Advocacy Center is hosting the third In Their Shoes: 10 Mile Challenge, a virtual walk kicking off February 19 and culminating with a group one-mile walk and celebration at Central Presbyterian on Sunday, March 19 at 12:30pm after worship service.

Each day, individuals experiencing homelessness walk to Central Outreach and Advocacy Center (COAC) in Downtown Atlanta for vital services. Services range from help with securing identification, resources for housing, and opportunities for job training, to easy access to food. Because transportation is often too expensive for this population, walking quite literally moves them throughout the city as they connect with these resources. Walking can even provide protection, as some unhoused individuals will walk throughout the night to avoid unsafe sleeping conditions. On average, a person experiencing homelessness can walk 10 miles in a single day

COAC is hosting the 10 Mile Challenge, a virtual walk kicking off February 15 and culminating with a group one-mile walk and celebration at Central Presbyterian on Sunday, March 19 after the worship service to better educate the general public and COAC supporters about the realities of homelessness and to encourage the public to share in the work of COAC. Participants can complete the 10 Mile challenge at the pace and location of their choosing. Teams of friends, neighbors, youth groups, and Scouts are encouraged to walk together to help raise $100,000 for its support services outreach programs. To register for the event, make a donation, sponsor the event, or learn more about the mission of COAC, visit www.centraloac.org/in-their-shoes.
