A Meal for Peace with Nancy and Shelvis Smith-Mather

Meal #1 | 12-1:30 pm, Tuesday, July 18 @ Presbytery of Greater Atlanta Office - Registration (limit 25)

Meal #2 | 6-8 pm, Thursday, July 27 @ North Avenue Presbyterian Church - Registration: Email Kay Carlson by July 24

Currently, more than 4 million South Sudanese are displaced. Many live in refugee camps in Uganda, Sudan and other surrounding countries.

The recent violence in Sudan forced South Sudanese refugees to return from Sudan to unstable regions of South Sudan. In the camps, they face ongoing threats to their safety and security among refugees of different politico-ethnic affiliations.

Come join PCUSA and RCA mission co-workers, Nancy and Shelvis Smith-Mather, for a Meal for Peace. Together, we will discuss the context, culture and history in South Sudan. As well as learn about our partnership with a South Sudanese, Christian, peacebuilding organization called RECONCILE. Our partnership:

  • Equips South Sudanese leaders with trauma counseling skills to support survivors of war in their communities

  • Provides conflict transformation training to address divisions within the refugee camps and in South Sudan

  • Improves relationships between South Sudanese refugees and their Ugandan host communities through community dialogues
