Biography of Rev. Antonio M. K. Lawrence

Luke 4:18-19 - “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has appointed me to bring the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Rev. Antonio is the son of the late Attorney Rev. Antonia and Freedamae C. Lawrence. Respected as a prolific preacher, scholar, thinker, and cultural critic, he is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  He was an honors graduate from Rocky Mount High School. He enrolled at Johnson C. Smith University where he majored in English and Minored in Philosophy and Ethics. While at Johnson C. Smith he distinguished himself as one of the top scholars and was awarded the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship as a sophomore.  He finished a distinguished career at Johnson C. Smith University earning a BA in English with a minor in Philosophy and Ethics Magna Cum Laude

In answering the call to Christian ministry, Antonio enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Religion and Society. While at Princeton, Antonio was awarded the Presbyterian Leadership Award and distinguished himself as one of the top preachers in his class. Also, while at Princeton Seminary he had the opportunity to intern at the historic St. James Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Diane L. Givens Moffett. Rev. Dr. Moffett currently serves as the President and Executive Director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency — the mission arm of the PC(USA). Rev. Lawrence also interned with the Elmwood United Presbyterian Church in East Orange, NJ.

Rev. Lawrence is presently serving as Pastor of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro, NC which has become the fastest growing racial ethnic church in the Presbytery of New Hope. Rev. Lawrence is also enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry Program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. As a proud man of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Rev. Lawrence strives to provide a voice to individuals who have no voice, to be an advocate to people who need one, and foster hope to communities that are hopeless.

Rev. Lawrence lives in Goldsboro, NC with his son Christopher, and their energetic dog Melody. Antonio strives to live by the prophetic words of Dr. Gardner C. Taylor raising the critical question “Did I do my Best”?
