NCC Freedom Summer Continues “Freedom Ride” Tour in Atlanta, Ga. 

 The next stop of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) five-city Freedom Ride civic engagement tour will be in Atlanta, GA on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 7 p.m. ET at Beulah Baptist Church, where the senior pastor is the Rev. Winford K. Rice, Jr.

NCC Freedom Ride’s Atlanta stop will include an ecumenical worship service, faith-based advocacy training, canvassing efforts, and voter registration focused on unity, empowerment, and civic engagement in honor of the 60th anniversary of the historic civil rights initiative that sought the desegregate Mississippi’s political system and register, mobilize, and empower Black voters. 

Prominent leaders participating in the service include Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, NCC President and General Secretary; Rev. Dr. Jamal Bryant, Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church; Rhonda F. Briggins, President of Delta for Women in Action; Rev. Dr. Alvin O'Neal Jackson, The Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival; and Rev. Winford K. Rice, Jr., Senior Pastor of Beulah Baptist Church.  

 Rev. Dr. Bryant will preach during the ecumenical service, which is open to all in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
