Join GIPL and Columbia Theological Seminary (CTS) for a lunch and learn in the CTS Ellis Room. We will gather to share lunch, which is included in the $10 registration fee, and learn from Rev. Dr. Dean Lindsey who will lead a workshop about Christians preaching about the climate crisis. The event is designed for clergy but all are welcome.
Just back from the Republic of Kiribati, a Central Pacific nation that will, in all likelihood, be the first country in the world rendered uninhabitable by rising sea level, Rev. Dean Lindsey will visit CTS to discuss ways that preachers can speak effectively to the people of faith about the Climate Crisis. As a native of New Orleans and formerly a pastor in Houston he has been a part of clean-up and rebuilding efforts following hurricanes Katrina and Harvey and knows the deep anguish of those who have lived through nature’s fury and are fearful of future destruction as climate change accelerates. Rev. Lindsey has also had the opportunity to participate in the international Drawdown Conference and to interact with leading climate scientists at Penn State University and other institutions.
He hopes to help other church leaders generate and lead conversations about the grave upheaval now taking place in the natural world and to address, with theological sensitivity, the denial, anger, anxiety, and despair that accompany this threat.
