The Rev. Rebekah Close LeMon to Preach on ‘Day 1’

The Rev. Rebekah Close LeMon, senior pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, is the featured preacher May 28 and June 4 on “Day 1” with host Peter Wallace, the nationally broadcast ecumenical radio program also accessible online at Day1.org and by podcast.

A native of Spartanburg, S.C., LeMon graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga. After receiving a J.D. degree from Emory University School of Law, she worked as an attorney for four years before joining the staff of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta as director of church growth. She served as executive pastor from March of 2015 until she was called to Trinity in 2022.

LeMon’s sermon for May 28, “We Hear!” focuses on the story of Pentecost found in Acts 2:1-18. She says, “I need a reminder — more often than once a year, really — that a power I cannot see or define with a list is at work in the world.”

LeMon’s sermon for Trinity Sunday, June 4, is entitled “Circle Up.” It is drawn from Paul’s final words for the troubled church at Corinth found in 2 Corinthians 13:11-13. “Paul doesn’t offer them a throw-away benediction as a way to close a challenging letter,” she says. “He offers them a challenge to see themselves as a communion, a fellowship of people who need one another. And he offers them the model of our triune God.”

The program includes interviews with LeMon conducted by Wallace, who is also executive producer.

“Day 1” has been broadcast every week for 78 years, formerly as “The Protestant Hour.” Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, “Day 1” is currently distributed to more than 200 radio stations across America and overseas. The “Day1 Weekly Program” is available through podcast apps. The program is produced by the Alliance for Christian Media, based in Atlanta.
